Question of the month; Does Kombucha really work? Answer is...Yes! If it did not better health why would millions of people keep drinking it and making it, for over two thousand years.

About Kombucha

Kombucha is a carbonated tea-based drink that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the expense of such medical studies. There are several centuries of anecdotal accounts supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most commonly referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not really a mushroom. It grows on the surface of the tea during the period of time the tea is fermenting and resembles a whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of a large number):

Testimonial - Allergy Rash, Dermatitis: "We have been growing and drinking Kombucha for 2 years now. My son "was highly allergic" to Brazilian Pepper Hedge (like poison ivy) and would develop a rash during certain times of the year. Of course we would get spripts from the dr. but they didn't help very much and the rash lasted for a couple of weeks. I put some Kombucha in a cup and applied it to the rash using a cotton ball. The very next morning, while washing (scratching) his face with a cloth, the rash literally "fell off. Underneath was beautiful new skin undefilied by the rash. He now drinks it daily (he's 11) and has not had dermitis since! I could go on and on but this was the most unbelievable thing I had seen. Thank you for all you do and I am truly thankful to God that we received our culture Kombucha America, and have enjoyed improved health since!!!... W.S.I."

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?

Most ask this question because they have heard that some mushrooms are toxic or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not toxic. It is only "popularly" called a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used as a health remedy for over 2000 years and is now being sold in food and health in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

Kombucha Tea is not a drug. The F.D.A. has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage provided it is prepared properly in a clean manner so as not to become contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you prepare can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented drink which as it ferments it creates a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

Nobody has died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for thousands of years. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people might be sensitive to any number of different things. A reaction is usually just a skin reddening or a minor.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you were to large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking large quantities of anything is usually not a good idea.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom could develop a mold but this is not common. Most common food molds are not harmful but they can spoil the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily prevented by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is naturally dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a delicious and safe beverage that can help to improve your health!
