Question of the month; Does Kombucha Tea really improve health? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it didn't improve health why would millions of people keep drinking it and making it, for over two thousand years.

Description of Kombucha


Kombucha is a invigorating tea-based drink that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal purposes. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the expense of such studies. There are several centuries of popular accounts telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a spongy mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also often popularly referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not really a mushroom. It forms on the surface of the fermenting tea while the tea is fermenting and resembles a near whitish colored pancake.

Is Kombucha safe?



Most ask this question because they know that some mushrooms are toxic or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not toxic. It is only "popularly" called a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used for health improvement for over 2000 years and is now being sold in food and health in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

Kombucha Tea is not a drug. The FDA has found Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage if it is correctly prepared in a clean manner so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. All foods that you make has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented beverage and as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which helps to protect the tea against pathogens.

No person has died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and yet millions of people daily drink this remarkable beverage and have done so for over two millennium. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people could be allergic to any number of things. A reaction is usually just a skin reddening or itch.

Kombucha Tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you drink very large quantities of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking huge quantities of anything is usually not a good idea.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom might develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common household food molds are harmless but they can ruin the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily prevented by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescription drugs.

There is nothing that is dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a great tasting drink that can will improve health!
