Description of Kombucha


Kombucha is a invigorating tea-based drink that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are several centuries of anecdotal stories telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a spongy mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most often referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not a true mushroom. It slowly forms on the surface of the fermenting tea while the tea is fermenting and looks like a near whitish colored pancake.

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?



Most ask this question because are aware that some mushrooms are toxic or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not toxic. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used for health improvement for thousands of years it is now being sold in health shops and grocery stores in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe drink if it is prepared properly in a clean way so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. All foods that you make has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less for Kombucha as it is a fermented drink and as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

No one has died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and yet millions of people daily drink this remarkable beverage and have done so for thousands of years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people might be allergic to any number of different things. An allergic is usually just a minor skin blush or a minor.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is permitted to ferment too long to a more sour condition. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you were to very large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking very large quantities of anything is hardly a smart thing to do.

A Kombucha mushroom might develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common such molds are harmless but they can spoil the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily prevented by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescription medications.

There is nothing that is dangerous about this amazing tea; it is a great tasting drink that can help to improve health!
