Question of the day; Does Kombucha really work? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it didn't improve health why would millions of people keep drinking it and preparing it, for thousands of years.

About Kombucha

Kombucha is a effervescent tea-based drink that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific information supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such medical studies. There are many centuries of anecdotal stories supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This produces the kombucha culture which is also referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not a true mushroom. It forms on the surface of the tea while the tea is fermenting and looks like a whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of hundreds):

Testimonial - General Health, Vitality: "I drank Komucha tea for nearly 10 years and what a blessing it was to me healthwise. I had very high energy levels, didn't have to see a doctor apart from routine medical check ups nor take prescription drugs. I always took the culture with me wherever I travelled to in order not to have to go for too long without drinking it. However I went to work abroad for a year and a half and took it with me but got careless and forgot the culture on my return to Canada.

Back in Montreal, I contacted all my friends I had introduced to the stuff for the culture but no one had it any longer. They had all gotten so lazy to carry on brewing the tea and thrown the scobies away.

As a result I was without the stuff for five months and it was one health problem after the other till this day. Psoriasis, hair loss, acne, flu, which I never had since I started drinking the tea, low energy levels and fatigue.I moved to Vancouver recently and was fortunate enough to find someone in the area over the internet from whom I bought the culture to start all over again.

It really worked for me and after my experiences over the last 5 months I don't think I could ever go without drinking the stuff again. Never! ... S.K."

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?

Most ask this question because they know that some mushrooms are toxic or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom it is not poisonous. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used for health improvement for over 2000 years it is now being sold in health shops and grocery stores in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe drink if it is correctly prepared in a clean manner so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. All foods that you prepare can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol helping to protect it.

Nobody has died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and yet millions of people daily drink this remarkable beverage and have done so for over 2000 years. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people might be sensitive to any number of things. An allergic is usually just a reddening of the skin or a minor.

Kombucha Tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is permitted to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is very sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking large amounts of anything is hardly a smart thing to do.

A Kombucha mushroom may develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common such molds are harmless but a contamination can spoil the taste of the tea. This minor problem can be easily prevented by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a delicious and safe beverage that can help to improve your health!
