Question of the month; Does Kombucha Tea really improve health? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it did not better health why would millions of people have kept drinking it and preparing it, for over 2000 years.

About Kombucha


Kombucha is a carbonated tea-based beverage that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific data supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are many centuries of anecdotal accounts supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is sold in stores but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a spongy mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most often referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not a true mushroom. It forms on the surface of the tea during the period of time the tea is fermenting and looks like a near whitish colored pancake.

So because of that I was treated with disgust by the medical staff. I came home, looked at my Kirlian photo on the fridge, poured another glass of K-Tea and knew I would be just fine.

The following summer I played a great season on a womens' fastball team. I played one more summer after that until I took up golfing. Not bad for a 53 yr. old granny with "a severe disability.

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?



Most ask this question because they have heard that some fungi are toxic or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not poisonous. It is only "popularly" called a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used for health improvement for over two millennium it is now being sold in food and health in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

Kombucha Tea is not a drug. The F.D.A. has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe drink if it is prepared properly in a clean way so as not to be contaminated by pathogens. Any food that you prepare can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha as it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it makes a small amount of alcohol which helps to protect the tea against pathogens.

Nobody has died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for over two millennium. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people may be sensitive to any number of things. An allergic is usually just a skin reddening or a minor.

The tea is acidic but no more so than wine, orange juice, or grapefruit juice, unless it is permitted to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you drink very large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking very large quantities of anything is usually not a wise thing to do.

A Kombucha mushroom could develop a mold but this is not common. Most common household food molds are not harmful but they can spoil the taste of the tea. This minor problem is easily avoided by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is naturally dangerous about this amazing tea; it is a delicious and safe beverage that can can improve health!
