What is Kombucha


Kombucha is a delicious tea-based drink that millions drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific data supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are many centuries of anecdotal stories supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available in stores but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This produces the kombucha culture which is also most often referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not really a mushroom. It slowly grows on the very surface of the tea while the tea is fermenting and resembles a near whitish colored pancake.

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?



Most ask this question because they have heard that some mushrooms are poisonous or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not toxic. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used for health improvement for over two millennium it is now being sold in health shops and grocery stores in the USA, it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself.

Kombucha Tea is not a drug. The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage if it is correctly prepared in a clean way so as not to be contaminated by pathogens. Any food that you make can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which helps to protect the tea against pathogens.

Nobody has ever died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for over 2000 years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people may be allergic to any number of things. An allergic is usually just a reddening of the skin or itch.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment longer and to a more sour state. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking large amounts of anything is usually not a good idea.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom may develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common household food molds are harmless but a contamination can ruin the taste of the tea. This minor problem is easily prevented by keeping the fermenting tea properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is inherently dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a delicious and safe beverage that can will improve health!
