Question of the week; Does Kombucha Tea really improve health? Answer is...It absolutely does! If it didn't improve health why have millions of people have kept drinking it and preparing it, for over two thousand years.

What is Kombucha

Kombucha is a invigorating tea-based beverage that millions drink for its health benefits or medicinal purposes. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such medical studies. There are many centuries of anecdotal stories supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not a true mushroom. It forms on the very surface of the tea while the tea is fermenting and resembles a whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of dozens and dozens):

Testimonial - Vitality, Mood; "I've been brewing my own for only a couple weeks; but I love the feel and effect for overall vitality, or mood in particular. I'm doing this partly as an experiment: I'd love to be able to report that I'm getting increased help with a partial seizure problem (from a brain surgery 5 yrs. ago). We'll see!! Supposedly the beta -glucans found in KT are effective for reducing brain tumors and scars, and that may still be an issue for me.

Also, a great tip was to use the oven (off) with a light on constantly (to keep the fermenting tea at the proper brewing temps)! I think I have a 20W bulb in there, and a thermometer tells me it's generally in the mid/upper 70s, just perfect!! So easy. ... N.K."

Kombucha Tea safe?

Most ask this question because they have heard that some fungi are toxic or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom it is not toxic. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used as a health remedy for over 2000 years and is now being widely sold in health food in the U.S., it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage if it is prepared properly in a clean manner so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you prepare has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented drink and as it ferments it creates a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

No person has ever died from drinking correctly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for over 2000 years. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

Kombucha Tea is a fermented drink and , but some few people might be allergic to any number of different things. A reaction is usually just a reddening of the skin or a minor.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long to a more sour condition. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you drink large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking huge quantities of anything is usually not a good idea.

A Kombucha mushroom might develop a mold but this is not common. Most common such molds are not harmful but they can ruin the taste of the tea. This limited problem can be easily avoided by keeping the fermenting tea properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is inherently dangerous about this remarkable tea; it is a delicious and safe beverage that can can improve health!
