I am pretty sure that, if you will be quite honest, you will admit that a good rousing sneeze, one that tears open your collar and throws your hair into your eyes, is really one of life's sensational pleasures. ~Robert Benchley

Question of the month; Does Kombucha really work? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it did not better health why have millions of people keep drinking it and preparing it, for over 2000 years.

What is Kombucha

Kombucha is a invigorating tea-based drink that is often drunk for its health benefits or medicinal purposes. There is scientific information supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are many centuries of popular stories telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available in stores but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not a true mushroom. It slowly forms on the surface of the tea while the tea is fermenting and looks like a near whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of a large number):

Testimonial - Vitality, Mood; "I've been brewing my own for only a couple weeks; but I love the feel and effect for overall vitality, or mood in particular. I'm doing this partly as an experiment: I'd love to be able to report that I'm getting increased help with a partial seizure problem (from a brain surgery 5 yrs. ago). We'll see!! Supposedly the beta -glucans found in KT are effective for reducing brain tumors and scars, and that may still be an issue for me.

Also, a great tip was to use the oven (off) with a light on constantly (to keep the fermenting tea at the proper brewing temps)! I think I have a 20W bulb in there, and a thermometer tells me it's generally in the mid/upper 70s, just perfect!! So easy. ... N.K."

Is Kombucha safe?

Most ask this question because are aware that some fungi are poisonous or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not poisonous. It is only "popularly" called a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used as a health remedy for thousands of years and is now being sold in health shops and grocery stores in the U.S., it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage provided it is prepared properly in a clean way so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you make can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented drink and as it ferments it creates a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

No person has died from drinking properly made Kombucha Tea and yet millions of people daily drink this remarkable beverage and have done so for thousands of years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people might be allergic to any number of different things. A reaction is usually just a reddening of the skin or a minor.

Kombucha Tea is acidic but no more so than wine, orange juice, or grapefruit juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long then it becomes more acidic. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is very sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking very large amounts of anything is hardly a smart thing to do.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom might develop a mold but this is not common. Most common food molds are not harmful but a contamination can ruin the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily prevented by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is inherently dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a great tasting drink that can can improve your health!
