What is Kombucha


Kombucha is a delicious tea-based drink that many drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific information supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are several centuries of anecdotal stories supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This produces the kombucha culture which is also most commonly referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not really a mushroom. It grows on the very surface of the tea while the tea is fermenting and resembles a whitish colored pancake.

Is Kombucha safe?



Most ask this question because are aware that some mushrooms are poisonous or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom it is not toxic. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used for health improvement for thousands of years it is now being sold in health shops and grocery stores in the USA, far less expensive to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The F.D.A. has found Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage provided it is prepared properly in a clean manner so as not to become contaminated by pathogens. Any food that you make has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less so for Kombucha as it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

Nobody has ever died from drinking correctly made Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for over two millennium. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

Kombucha Tea is a fermented drink and , but some few people might be allergic to any number of things. A reaction is usually just a reddening of the skin or itch.

Kombucha Tea is acidic but no more so than wine, orange juice, or grapefruit juice, unless it is allowed to ferment longer and to a more sour state. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is very sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking huge amounts of anything is usually not a good idea.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom may develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common household food molds are harmless but a contamination can spoil the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily avoided by keeping the brewing jar properly covered and if it should occur is easily detected and you simple make a new batch of tea."]
