Question of the month; Does Kombucha Tea really improve health? Answer is...Yes! If it did not help to improve health why would millions of people have kept drinking it and making it, for over 2000 years.

Description of Kombucha

Kombucha is a delicious tea-based beverage that is often drunk for its health benefits or medicinal purposes. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the expense of such studies. There are several centuries of popular stories supporting health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is sold in stores but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a spongy mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most commonly referred to as the "mushroom" although it is not a true mushroom. It forms on the surface of the fermenting tea during the period of time the tea is fermenting and resembles a near whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of hundreds):

Testimonial - General Health, Respitorary Health: "We recently ordered a new starter vial from Kombucha America. Tomorrow is our first day that we'll be able to drink Kombucha again in over a year. Because we moved, been busy, death in family, etc -- we lost our original culture.

Both my husband and I drank Kombucha for eight years. It's an amazing drink!!! For my husband, Kombucha really helped his constant allergies, and his arthritis. (In addition, he just generally "felt better" with more energy, better sleep, etc). For me, it's a godsend in clearing out my lungs each day. After 40 years of smoking, needless to say, my lungs are in ruins. But if I drink Kombucha both in the morning (first thing), and again at night, my lungs clear up, and I can breath cleanly. It's amazing. I've even tested this, putting off drinking Kombucha till later in the morning or afternoon, and it's the Kombucha that does the trick!

Many of you will be skeptical about drinking this "health" remedy -- much like I was. When my husband first came home from work talking about Kombucha stories from other employees, I thought it was bunk, he was crazy, and that the effects people were feeling at his workplace were simply the "placebo effect. As a Microbiologist, I was especially skeptical. But, after much research and study, I agreed that it would be safe to make at home, (follow the instructions), and I made my husband his first culture. After about 2 weeks, he began to feel better. That's when I gave it a try. That was 8 years ago.

One word of advise! Don't stop drinking Kombucha just because you no longer feel any "new" benefits after a while, or because you just get too busy to make it. Kombucha continues to work as long as you drink it. What occurs is that you simply become accustomed to feeling better. If you stop drinking Kombucha, however, for a week or two, you'll begin to feel like you did BEFORE you began drinking the tea. It will occur gradually, till one day you realize that the reason you're feeling worse is probably because you're not drinking your daily Kombucha.

We're strong advocates of Kombucha. It's the ONLY health supplement we take aside from Vitamins/Minerals. Give it a try, a reasonable time to work (at least a month), and keep track of how you feel every day. Hopefully, you'll be as amazed as we were.

Tomorrow our culture will be ready! It smells delicious, is bubbly, and we're going to have our first Kombucha in over a year in Champaign glass. We are excited, and will never again be without Kombucha for so long... S.L.A."

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?

Most ask this question because they know that some mushrooms are poisonous or they have been told misinformation about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom it is not poisonous. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used as a health remedy for thousands of years it is now being sold in food and health in the USA, it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The F.D.A. has stated that this remarkable tea to be a safe beverage if it is correctly prepared in a clean way so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you prepare can become contaminated but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented drink and as it ferments it creates a small amount of alcohol which helps to protect the tea against pathogens.

No one has ever died from drinking correctly made Kombucha Tea and yet millions of people daily drink this remarkable beverage and have done so for over 2000 years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented drink and , but some few people may be allergic to any number of things. A reaction is usually just a reddening of the skin or a minor.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking huge amounts of anything is usually not a wise thing to do.

A Kombucha mushroom could develop a mold but this is not common. Most common such molds are harmless but they can ruin the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily avoided by keeping the brewing jar properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescription medications.

There is nothing that is inherently dangerous about this remarkable tea; it is a great tasting drink that can help to improve your health!
