Question of the month; Does Kombucha really improve health? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it did not help to improve health why would millions of people have kept drinking it and brewing it, for over two thousand years.

Description of Kombucha


Kombucha is a effervescent tea-based drink that millions drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific data supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the expense of such studies. There are several centuries of anecdotal accounts telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most commonly referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not a true mushroom. It grows on the surface of the tea during the period of time the tea is fermenting and looks like a whitish colored pancake.

Should I be worried about the safety of Kombucha?



Most ask this question because they have heard that some fungi are toxic or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom and it is not poisonous. People only call it a mushroom, it is not a mushroom.

Kombucha has been used for health improvement for over two millennium it is now being widely sold in health food in the U.S., far less expensive to make it yourself.

Kombucha Tea is not a drug. The F.D.A. has found this remarkable tea to be a safe drink if it is prepared properly in a clean way so as not to become contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you make has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less so for Kombucha as it is a fermented drink and as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which helps to protect the tea against pathogens.

No person has died from drinking properly made Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for thousands of years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented beverage and , but then again some few people may be allergic to any number of different things. An allergic is usually just a minor skin blush or itch.

The tea is acidic but no more so than grapefruit juice or orange juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long in which case it becomes more sour. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you were to huge quantities of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking huge quantities of anything is hardly a smart thing to do.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom might develop a mold but this is not likely. Most common such molds are not harmful but a contamination can spoil the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily prevented by keeping the fermenting tea properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most all prescription drugs.

There is nothing that is dangerous about this amazing tea; it is a great tasting drink that can will improve health!
