Question of the day; Does Kombucha Tea really improve health? Answer is...It absolutely does! If it did not better health why have millions of people have kept drinking it and brewing it, for thousands of years.

Description of Kombucha

Kombucha is a invigorating tea-based beverage that is often drunk for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific info supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies are being conducted mainly due to the cost of such studies. There are several centuries of popular accounts telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is sold commercially but can easily be made at home by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not really a mushroom. It forms on the very surface of the tea during the period of time the tea is fermenting and looks like a near whitish colored pancake.

Testimonial (Just one of a large number):

Testimonial - Crohn's, Acid Reflux: "I recently started brewing Kombucha Tea for myself and decided to share one of my scoby's with a friend that found out this past summer that she had crohns disease. She also suffered from acid reflux for years. After drinking 1 ounce of kombucha tea she found that the next day her crohns disease wasn't bothering her and now it has been 2 or 3 weeks and she has no symptoms of crohns disease and her acid reflux doesn't keep her up at night and she can eat foods she once had to avoid. If she starts to get heart burn after eating she sips one ounce of her tea and it goes away instantly. There are no words to describe how thrilled she is... J.K."

The FDA has stated that Kombucha Tea to be a safe drink provided it is prepared properly in a clean manner so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you make has a risk of contamination but the risk is probably less for Kombucha because it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it produces a small amount of alcohol which protects the tea from obnoxious pathogens.

No one has ever died from drinking properly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for thousands of years. One thousand people a year die from taking aspirin, so which do you think is safer!

The tea is acidic but no more so than wine, orange juice, or grapefruit juice, unless it is allowed to ferment too long then it becomes more acidic. Drinking Kombucha Tea wil not change the pH level of your blood unless you were to large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would be foolish to do, drinking huge amounts of anything is usually not a good idea.
