Question of the month; Does Kombucha really improve health? Answer is...Absolutely yes! If it didn't improve health why would millions of people keep drinking it and preparing it, for thousands of years.

About Kombucha

Kombucha is a delicious tea-based beverage that millions drink for its health benefits or medicinal reasons. There is scientific information supporting health benefits but unfortunately few studies or have been conducted mainly due to the expense of such medical studies. There are several centuries of anecdotal accounts telling of health benefits attributed to the tea. Kombucha is available in stores but can easily be prepared by fermenting tea using a solid mass of yeast and bacteria often nicknamed a SCOBY. This forms the kombucha culture which is also most often referred to as the "mushroom" but it is not really a mushroom. It grows on the surface of the fermenting tea while the tea is fermenting and looks like a near whitish colored pancake.

I am drinking kombucha as a preventative measure so I have not noticed anything except extreme energy. My husband has arthritis in his knees. He drank kombucha for a week and he now has no pain, even with bad weather coming! I love this stuff. Thank you so much for all your help and information! It is really not as hard as people make it out to be! ... B.L.M."

Is Kombucha safe?

Most ask this question because they have heard that some mushrooms are toxic or they have been misinformed about Kombucha. Kombucha is not a mushroom it is not poisonous. It is only "popularly" called a mushroom.

Kombucha Tea has been used as a health remedy for thousands of years it is now being sold in food and health in the U.S., it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself.

The tea does improve health but it is not a drug. The F.D.A. has found Kombucha Tea to be a safe beverage if it is correctly prepared in a clean manner so as not to be contaminated by common food pathogens. Any food that you prepare can become contaminated but the risk is probably less so for Kombucha because it is a fermented beverage which as it ferments it creates a small amount of alcohol helping to protect it.

Nobody has ever died from drinking correctly prepared Kombucha Tea and millions drink the tea daily and have done so for thousands of years. It is safer than aspirin. There are 1000 aspirin related aspirin deaths yearly.

Kombucha Tea is a fermented drink and , but then again some few people might be allergic to any number of different things. A reaction is usually just a minor skin blush or itch.

Kombucha Tea is acidic but no more so than wine, orange juice, or grapefruit juice, unless it is allowed to ferment longer and to a more sour state. Drinking Kombucha Tea cannot change the pH level of your blood unless you drink very large amounts of the tea when it is very sour, this would not be a smart thing to do, drinking very large quantities of anything is hardly a smart thing to do.

Rarely A Kombucha mushroom may develop a mold but this is not common. Most common food molds are not harmful but a contamination can ruin the taste of the tea. This small problem is easily avoided by keeping the fermenting tea properly coveredKombucha is not known to counteract negatively with most prescribed medications.

There is nothing that is inherently dangerous about this beneficial beverage; it is a great tasting drink that can can improve health!
